Mr. Everardo RUIZ

Everardo Ruiz is the founder of IIPCC Seattle Chapter. He expertise is intellectual property commercialization investments and IP investment funds for Economic Development with sovereign wealth funds, governments, and industrial clients. As the Managing Director of Energy Transition Partners, his investment expertise is interdisciplinary and targets digital technologies from software to nanoscale - networking technologies, fintech, data management, semiconductor, UAV, aero/astro, and terrestrial vehicle technologies, medical and biotechnology, petrochemical, and energy-related investment areas.

Previous to Energy Transition Partners, Everardo was with Intellectual Ventures (IV), where he directed patent investments that drove the bulk of the funds’ investment returns.  Previous to IV, Everardo was with Intel Capital where he invested in wireless, telecom, and semiconductor startups such as Peregrine Semiconductor (IPO; now NASDAQ: PSMI), Lightconnect (acq. by Neophotonics; NYSE: NPTN), Lytek (acq. by Triton), K2 Optronics and Corona Optical Systems (acq. by Emcore; NASDAQ: EMKR).   While at Intel Everardo also co-founded the Intel Connect data center product group and was responsible for the product’s core technology, in addition to responsibility for sales to clients Dell, HP, Cray, SGI, and US and foreign national laboratories building teraflop supercomputers and data centers.

Prior to Intel Capital, Everardo also held investment, management, and wireless product development roles at Texas Instruments (TI).  At TI he championed TI’s investment in SnapTrack (acq. by Qualcomm; NASDAQ: QCOM) and architected wireless chipsets for handsets from Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, and LG.   Dr. Ruiz also did radio-frequency drive and control system design engineering on particle accelerators at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the Superconducting Super Collider in collaboration with CERN.  Everardo started his career in microbiology where he genetically modified Brassica Napus rapeseed at Calgene (IPO; later acq. by Monsanto; NYSE: MON).  

 

Everardo Ruiz holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas, his MS in Management and Engineering from the MIT Sloan School of Management and MIT School of Engineering, an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Davis.

 

As both an avid entrepreneur and inventor, Everardo enjoys helping startups commercialize their technology and develop durable IP strategies.  He also greatly enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing classical guitar, aviating commercial and private UAV / general aircraft, and teaching at MIT and the University of Washington.  Everardo also deeply enjoys the solitude of sculling.
